Xeno is a Japanese role-playing game meta-franchise created by Tetsuya Takahashi that spans three related series. The first entry, Xenogears, was developed and published by SquareSoft. After Takahashi left Square in 1999, he co-founded the company Monolith Soft and partnered with Namco to start a new series called Xenosaga. In 2007, Nintendo announced they became the majority shareholder of Monolith Soft with 80% of shares. Under Nintendo, in 2010, Monolith Soft created Xenoblade Chronicles. The three series that fall under the Xeno metaseries do not necessary have direct story connections. However, the three have common thematic links and have the word "Xeno" as part of their name, which Takahashi has said it identifies his games and a symbolic representation of all the game. As of March 2023, the entire Xeno metaseries has sold over 11.21 million units worldwide.
