The Wario franchise is a spin-off of Nintendo's Mario franchise. Wario made his first appearance in the game Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins on the Game Boy in 1992. Then, in 1994, Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 was released for the Game Boy, starting the Wario franchise. The Wario franchise primarily consists of two separate series, Wario Land and WarioWare. Wario Land is a series of platforming games starring Wario, usually in the hunt for treasure. WarioWare is a series of microgames compilations created in-universe by Wario and friends in the desire to make money. As of December 2022, the Wario franchise has sold over 22.81 million copies worldwide.

- Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 and WarioWare: Touched! have each sold over 1 million in Japan.[11]
- WarioWare is known as Made in Wario in Japan.
- WarioWare: Snapped!, Bird & Beans, Paper Airplane Chase, and WarioWare: D.I.Y. Showcase were only released digitally.
- In 1993, a game called Mario & Wario was released for the NES only in Japan. Due to it releasing before Wario Land, the cast being all Mario characters, and the game being branded under Mario in Super Smash Bros., the game is not accounted for under Wario sales.
- Wario Blast: Featuring Bomberman! is only branded as part of the Wario franchise in the west, as it is a re-skinned version of Bomberman GB, which was released in Japan in August 1994.
