The Paper Mario series contains six Mario games released between 2000 and 2020 on six different consoles and a handheld. The first two in the series are role-playing games, with the third one, Super Paper Mario for the Wii, being a mixture of both RPG and platforming elements. Each new game in the series was known for selling more than the previous one, prior to Paper Mario: Sticker Star for the Nintendo 3DS in 2012, which sold only a little more than The Thousand-Year Door, and Paper Mario: Color Splash for the Wii U in 2016, which is the worst selling game in the series.
