This the NPD data for September 2018, which covers the sales for United States. The gaming industry generated $1.376 billion.

Overall

A total of $306 million for Hardware. This is down 3% from 2017. For software, there was a total of $747 million, slightly up from from 2017. For Accessories, there was a total of $323 million, up 43% from 2017.

For specific titles, Marvel’s Spider-Man, despite being an exclusive, beat out every other multiplatform release this month including NBA 2K19 and Assassin's Creed. It achieved the largest launch for any Playstation exclusive and the seventh largest launch for any title on a Playstation platform. Marvel's Spider-Man achieved 37% higher launch sales than the combined sales of the launch months of every other Spider-Man game since 1995.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey was only tracked for 2 days but, it still shows double-digit growth over 2017's Assassin's Creed Origins. NBA 2K19 achieved the highest launch month sales for any sports game for the NPD and became the highest selling sports title for the year. FIFA 19 was also relatively strong, achieving the highest launch month sales since FIFA 16 and being the 3rd highest launch month sales for the franchise. Shadow of the Tomb Raider was also strong, achieving the second highest launch month sales for the franchise, only behind the 2013 reboot. Finally, Forza Horizon 4 achieved the highest launch month sales for the franchise and the best racing game launch on Xbox platforms.
