Overall[]

A total of $313.5 million for Hardware. This is down 27% from 2014. For software, there was a total of $465.6 million, down 3% from 2014. For Accessories, there was a total of $230.9 million, up 22% from 2014.

In terms of hardware, the Playstation 4 led the market. The combined PS4 and Xbox One sales are 40 percent higher than the combined totals for PS3 and 360 in their respective 23 first months in market. However, for this month both the Xbox One and PS4 fell from last year. 3DS is up 25% year over year for the 9 month period from January through September. The Wii U did grow by 110% from last month, thanks to the bundle with Super Mario Maker. The other eighth generation consoles did have double-digit growth on a weekly basis.

In terms of software, NBA 2K16 took the top position with the biggest launch for a sports title in the eighth generation, according to TakeTwo. Nintendo noted that Super Mario Maker sold over 500,000 and Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer sold nearly 115,000 when accounting for digital and bundles. Playstation Store also experienced the highest grossing month in the platform's history.
