This the NPD data for September 2013, which covers the sales for United States. The gaming industry generated $1.079 billion[1]. This month marked the launch of Grand Theft Auto V.

Overall[]

A total of $183.2 million for Hardware. This is down 13% from 2012. For software, there was a total of $754 million, up 52% from from 2012. Including PC software, the revenue is only up 40%. For Accessories, the revenue was up 2% from 2012.

In terms of hardware, the Nintendo 3DS is top platform for the fifth month[2]. The Playstation 3 broke the Xbox 360's 32 month record by being the top-selling console. This was driven by the Grand Theft Auto V 500 GB bundle. Xbox 360 has sold 1.6 million for the year at this point. The Wii U moved 200% over the August.

In terms of software,Grand Theft Auto V topped the charts, representing 50% of the revenue this month and became the highest selling game in any September. Sports games did well for the month, like usual for September. Diablo III ranked in the top 5 due to the release of the console versions.
