This the NPD data for October 2014, which covers the sales for October 5 through November 1, 2014 in United States. The gaming industry generated $790.7 million.[1]

Video game market revenue[]

  • Total sales: $790.7 million
  • Software sales: $350.3 million, down less than 1% from last year
    • PC Software sales: $8.9 million
  • Hardware sales: $273.6 million, up 59% from last year
  • Accessory sales: $166.8 million, up 22% from last year

Hardware sales[]

In terms of hardware sales, the Xbox One and Playstation 4 have completed their first year of sales with sales 70% higher than their predecessors. Sony is again the top platform for the month. Microsoft also mentioned that a price drop in late October tripled the Xbox One's sales with the system outselling the PS4 in the latter 2 weeks of the month. The Wii U's year to date sales are up 47% over 2013.

Software sales[]

In terms of software sales, NBA 2K15 is the biggest title of the month. Super Smash Bros. for 3DS outperformed all the new releases despite the majority of its sales being in the September tracking period. However, The Evil Within set a new record for first month sales for a survival-horror game. Sunset Overdrive failed to crack the top 10 normally but, would land at No. 9 if they were going by SKU, though the bundle sales are not counted in either list.
