This the NPD data for October 2013, which covers the sales for United States for October 6 through November 2, 2013. The gaming industry generated $791 million[1]. This month marked the release of Pokémon X and Y and the Nintendo 2DS.

Overall[]

A total of $171.7 million for Hardware. This is down 8% from 2012. For software, there was a total of $495.1 million, up 12% from from 2012. For Accessories, it was up 1% from 2012.

In terms of hardware, the 3DS dominated hardware sales for the sixth month in a row with a total of 452,000 units. For consoles, the Xbox 360 retook the lead after the PS3 stopped their streak of consecutive months as top console, with 166,000 units[2].

In terms of software, Pokémon split across two versions failed to topple Grand Theft Auto's second month. However, when combined they sold 1.7 million compared to Grand Theft Auto's 1.1 million. Battlefield 4 had a relatively soft launch, down from Battlefield 3, though the title was boosted considerably by the launch of the new consoles in November.
