This the NPD data for November 2021, which covers the sales for United States. The gaming industry generated $6.279 billion[1].

Overall[]

A total of $883 million for Hardware. This is down 38% from 2020. For video game content, there was a total of $5.138 billion, down 1% from from 2020. For Accessories, there was a total of $258 million, down 20% from 2020.

In terms of hardware, it is lowest since 2016 primarily due to shortages of the newest consoles. Nintendo Switch is the top selling console in both dollars and units, with 1.13 million sold[2]. It sold 550,000 during the week of Black Friday alone. The Xbox Series is second and the PS5 is third. If the two of them were combined, their sales would be barely more than the Switch.

In terms of software, Call of Duty: Vanguard was the biggest game on the year, though its launch sales fall short of Blacks Ops: Cold War sales for the year. This is the 14th year where a Call of Duty game was the best-selling game of its launch month. Battlefield 2042 was also a big seller, being no. 2 for the month and instantly becoming the 6th best selling game of the year. Forza Horizon 5 set a launch month record for the franchise. Shin Megami Tensei V was a bit of a dark horse but, it also broke records for the franchise, having the highest launch month sales for the franchise (ignoring Persona). Mobile spending exceeded $2 billion for the 9th month in a row, with growth of 11% from last November.[3]
