Video Game Sales Wiki

This the NPD data for 2018, which covers the sales for United States. The gaming industry generated $2.693 billion[1].

Overall[]

A total of $1.182 billion for Hardware. This is up 3% from 2017. For software, there was a total of $1,008 million, down 15% from from 2017. For Accessories, there was a total of $503 million, up 35% from 2017.

The dip in software is largely driven by Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII releasing in October rather than November. Despite that, sales for Call of Duty were strong. The game was the second fastest selling games on the PS4 and Xbox One, trailing only Call of Duty: WWII. Red Dead Redemption II had a stronger performance though. The game outsold the lifetime sales of its predecessor by 40% with only two months into its release. Despite the poor critical reception, Fallout 76 is the third best physical launch in the series, only falling behind Fallout 4 and New Vegas.

Pokémon broke new gross sales with Pokémon Let's Go. Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu achieved the second highest launch month sales in the franchise, only behind Pokémon Stadium. However, none of the Pokémon games are combined with their sister titles and previous mainline entries were on handhelds at significantly lower prices.
