This the NPD data for May 2020, which covers the sales for United States. The gaming industry generated $977 million. This is the highest May since 2008.

Overall

A total of $235 million for Hardware. This is up 56% from 2019. For software, there was a total of $438 million, up 67% from from 2019. For Accessories, there was a total of $304 million, up 32% from 2019.

In terms of hardware, the Nintendo Switch maintains its lead position in both units and dollar sales. This was the highest for an individual platform since the DS in 2009

In terms of software, most of the best-selling games, most of the games did not launch this month with the highest ranking new release being Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition. However, video game software reached the highest total since 2010. Mortal Kombat 11 reaches its highest position since 2019 and has become the fifth best-selling fighting game in the US.
