This the NPD data for May 2019, which covers the sales for United States. The gaming industry generated $642 million[1].

Overall[]

A total of $149 million for Hardware. This is down 20% from 2018. For software, there was a total of $262 million, down 13% from from 2018. For Accessories, there was a total of $230 million, flat from 2018.

Hardware was down with all platforms but the Nintendo Switch down year-over-year. The Nintendo Switch was the best-selling platform for May and maintained its lead in both unit and dollar sales.

This was the lowest software sales for May since 2013 and for new releases in particular, it was the lowest since 1998. There was only 3 new games in the top 20. For games in particular, Mortal Kombat 11 became the best-selling game for 2019. Month 2 sales for Mortal Kombat doubled the month 2 sales for every other Mortal Kombat game.
