Overall[]
A total of $187 million for Hardware. This is up 95% from 2013. For software, there was a total of $274 million, up 57% from from 2013. An additional $10 million were for PC retail sales. For Accessories, there was a total of $159.6 million, up 8% from 2013.
In terms of hardware, the Playstation 4 beat the Xbox One once again. Both consoles continued to lead. Hardware bundles for the Wii U and the Playstation Vita boosted sales for the month.
In terms of software, software sales rebounded with a new major release in Watch_Dogs, alongside strong performance of Mario Kart 8, Wolfenstein, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Kirby: Triple Deluxe. Minecraft also received a boost due to the release of the PS3 version at retail. Collectively, May 2014 launches sold 800 percent more in dollar sales than May 2013 launches did in their respective launch month, resulting in new launches accounting for 50% of revenue compared to the 9% in 2013.. For the new generation, all the titles in the top 10 sold better on PS4 than the Xbox One.
