This the NPD data for May 2013, which covers the sales for United States. The gaming industry generated $386.3 million.

Overall

A total of $96 million for Hardware. This is down 31% from 2012. For software, there was a total of $187.6 million, down 44% from from 2012. For Accessories, there was a total of $115.3 million, dropping 6% from 2012. The digital format sales is estimated to be $339 million.

In terms of hardware, the Nintendo 3DS edged out the Xbox 360 to become the top-selling platform. It was slightly up from last May, making it have the best growth of any platform. Xbox 360 was still the the top console with 114,000, keeping its record for the 29th consecutive month.

In terms of software, Injustice led the month for the second month in a row. There was an overall weak month for new launches. New SKUs generated seventy percent less units and eighty percent less revenue from 2012. Only 3 new SKUs were accounted for the top 10 with only Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D in the top 5. Nintendo 3DS software increased by 60% from 2012 as the main bright spot for the month. PC software dropped the most due the lack of respective release to Diablo III.
