This the NPD data for March 2022, which covers the sales for United States. The gaming industry generated $4.853 billion.

Overall

A total of $515 million for Hardware. This is down 24% from 2021. For video game content, there was a total of $4.112 billion, down 13% from from 2021. For Accessories, there was a total of $227 million, down 23% from 2021.

In terms of hardware, the Switch led the month and quarter in terms of units while the Xbox Series led the month and quarter in terms of dollar sales. Playstation 5 ended up in third in both categories. Xbox achieved a new March record in both units (over 2011) and in dollar sales (over 2014).

In terms of software sales. Elden Ring continued to dominate with March sales showing growth over its February launch. It became the second-highest game of the last 12 months. Gran Turismo 7 finished in second and set a record for the franchise, achieving the highest launch-month dollar sales. It became the 4th best selling game of the quarter. The mobile market is down 12% year-over-year according to Sensor Tower, with most of that decline coming from the Google Play and the App Store being less than a percent.
