This the NPD data for July 2020, which covers the sales for United States. The gaming industry generated $3.587 billion[1]. This is the first month to replace software sales with video game content, which incorporates mobile spending via Sensor Tower and in-game purchases for the major digital platforms.

Overall[]

A total of $166 million for Hardware. This is down 2% from 2019. For video game content, there was a total of $3.251 billion, up 34% from from 2019. For Accessories, there was a total of $170 million, up 34% from 2019.

In terms of hardware, Nintendo Switch is the best selling console in terms of dollar sales and unit sales.

In terms of software, Ghost of Tsushima was the biggest title, becoming Sucker Punch's fastest selling release. Paper Mario: The Origami King is other big new title with a new launch month record for a Paper Mario title, more than doubling The Thousand Year Door in dollar sales. Last of Us: Part II continues to perform well, becoming the 3rd highest lifetime dollar sales for a Sony title, only behind Marvel’s Spider-Man and God of War (2018). Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris was a relatively strong launch, being the highest position for a Sword Art Online title. Grand Theft Auto and other Take-Two titles are now much lower on the rankings due to Take-Two opting out of showing digital on the public lists.
