This the NPD data for July 2016, which covers the sales of video games for United States. The gaming industry generated $480.1 million[1].
Overall[]
A total of $141.3 million for Hardware. This is down 30% from July 2015. For game software, there was a total of $210.3 million, down 5% from 2015. For PC software, there was a total of $11.4 million, down 12% from $12.9 million in 2015. For accessories, there was a total of $117.1 million, down 5% from 2015.
In terms of hardware, the Xbox One was the top selling console, driven by the discount. However, the 3DS was the overall best-selling platform with a five-fold increase for the 2DS and an 18% increase for the 3DS. The cumulative sales of PS4 and Xbox One are 41% ahead of their predecessors when their launches are aligned.
In terms of software, the only new game ranking in the top 10 is Monster Hunter Generations, boosted by Nintendo price dropping the 2DS. It still fell behind last month's LEGO Star Wars. Grand Theft Auto V is the top game of the month despite being almost 3 years for launch. Additionally, Pokémon titles were boosted by the release of Pokémon Go though since the titles are split by version, none ranked in the top 10.
