This the NPD data for January 2018, which covers the sales for United States. The gaming industry generated $1.096b billion[1]. PC software is now reported combined with console software sales.

Overall[]

A total of $1.147 billion for Hardware. This is up 119% from January 2017. For software, there was a total of $517 million, up 51% from 2017. For Accessories, there was a total of $301 million, up 37% from 2017.

The Playstation 4 was the top-selling platform for November by revenue, but the Nintendo Switch sold the most systems. Xbox One rounded out the top three but, all three platforms were with 3% by revenue. The Nintendo 3DS family also saw growth with the highest sales in January since 2013. All platforms combined exceeded 1 million consoles, the most since January 2011.

Monster Hunter World achieved record sales, achieving a launch month high for the franchise. Dragon Ball Fighterz had a strong launch. It achieved higher launch month sales than every Dragon Ball release since Dragon Ball Z: Budokai, which released in December 2002.
