Overall[]
A total of $185.5 million for Hardware. This is down 23% from 2014. For software, there was a total of $235.7 million, up 6% from from 2014. There was an additional $6.6 million for PC retail software. For Accessories, there was a total of $204.6 million, up 3% from 2014.
In terms of hardware, hardware sales cooled after the holiday season with the PS4 and Xbox One only 60% above the cumulative total of their predecessors for 15 months. The PS4 took back the lead for the month as Xbox One ended their discount. Xbox One still outsold its sales from last year though. Nintendo announced that Wii U sales increased by nearly 30% from last January.
In terms of software, Dying Light was far and away the biggest game of the month. It now holds the record for highest first month sales of Survival Horror new IP, beating The Evil Within from the previous October. Nintendo also noted that Super Smash Bros. had sold 180,000 for the month including digital. For all software, Xbox One ultimately won out over the Playstation 4 with several older titles leaning Xbox over Playstation. Nintendo mentioned that Wii U software sales were up 45% from last year.
