This the NPD data for February 2016, which covers the sales for United States. The gaming industry generated $842.5 million[1].

Overall[]

A total of $292.2 million for Hardware. This is down 23% from February 2015. For game software, there was a total of $303.9 million, down 10% from 2015.

Hardware was down year over year due to the absence of a new hardware launch like the New 3DS that launched the previous February. Handheld hardware sales dropped by 58% year-over-year and Seventh Generation hardware dropped by 77%. The current generation only dropped by 6%. The Playstation 4 continued to be the top-selling console.

Fire Emblem Fates performed well despite being split up into 3 entries. If the game had been counted as a single entry, it would have ranked 3rd in physical software. The game had tripled the launch month sales of Fire Emblem: Awakening, the previous record holder for the franchise. Far Cry: Primal was also massively successful, achieving greater sales than Far Cry 4 when adjusting for the number of days they were available.
