In terms of hardware, the Playstation 4 led over Xbox One in unit sales with the Xbox One selling 258,000. However, the PS4's margin over the Xbox One was small so, the Xbox One had more dollar sales. According to Nintendo, the Wii U sales were boosted by 25% from last year. Most systems had double-to-triple digits increases for most platforms.

In terms of software, PS4 & Xbox One software sales are up 80% compared to the first 4 months of the Xbox 360 and PS3. The biggest new game was The Lego Movie Videogame, though it was the one game with 7 platforms. New launches only fell by 1% compared to 2013. Bravely Default sold 200,000 and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze sold 180,000 when including digital sales according to Nintendo. If it was on a SKU basis, Bravely Default and Donkey Kong would have been 2nd and 4th best-selling games for the month.
