A total of $1.31 billion for Hardware. This is down 4% from 2013. For software, there was a total of $1.25 billion, down 2% from from 2013. There was $30 million for PC retail software. For Accessories, there was a total of $681.2 million, up 8% from 2013.
In terms of hardware, Xbox One outsells the Playstation 4 for the second month in a row. The cumulative total of the PS4 and Xbox One exceed their predecessor by only 65%. Bundles contributed to 71% of the hardware units this month, The eighth generation consoles actually increased from 2013 by 13%.
In terms of software, the software is migrating to the eighth generation consoles with sales up 70% from last year. Seventh generation software however fell by 33% and portables fell by 16%. NPD notes that if the top ten were on a SKU basis both Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire would make the list.
