This the NPD data for August 2018, which covers the sales for United States. The gaming industry generated $796 million.

Overall

A total of $214 million for Hardware. This is up 28% from August 2017. For software, there was a total of $330 million, up 16% from from 2017. For Accessories, there was a total of $251 million, up 39% from 2017.

Madden NFL 19 were a return to form with launch month sales being the highest since Madden NFL 13. Monster Hunter: World jumped back up to the 2nd position this month due to the PC release of the title. Similarly, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 jumped from 321 to the 8th position due to Microsoft adding the title to Xbox One Backwards Compatibility.
