This the NPD data for August 2013, which covers the sales for United States. The gaming industry generated $521 million[1], up 1% from last year.

Overall[]

A total of $90.8 million for Hardware. This is down 40% from 2012. For software, there was a total of $305 million, up 21% from from 2012. For Accessories, there was a total of $136.7 million, up 7% from 2012.

In terms of hardware, the Nintendo 3DS was the best-selling piece of hardware for the 4th month in a row. It has sold 30% more year to date than 2012. The Xbox 360 has maintained its lead for consoles for the 32nd month in a row, selling 96,000 for the month.

In terms of software, Madden NFL once again topped the month of its release, selling over 1 million units. It was still down from Madden NFL 12 though. Disney Infinity had a strong debut with 294,000 units sold. Nintendo reported that Mario & Luigi: Dream Team had sold 190,000 units including digital and Pikmin 3 had sold 115,000 units. New Super Luigi U had also moved 120,000 across both physical and digital. Nintendo also reported that 9 3DS titles have sold over 250,000 in 2013 thus far.
