This the NPD data for April 2022, which covers the sales for United States. The gaming industry generated $4.337 billion.

Overall

A total of $343 million for Hardware. This is up 16% from 2021. For video game content, there was a total of $3.844 billion, down 10% from from 2021. For Accessories, there was a total of $151 million, down 10% from 2021.

In terms of software, LEGO Star Wars was a huge hit becoming the 2nd best selling game of the year. It achieved the highest launch month sales for a LEGO and became the 6th best selling LEGO game to date. It is also the first time since Monster Hunter Rise that a third party title topped the Nintendo list. Elden Ring also finally sold enough to surpass Call of Duty in the trailing 12 months tracking.

In terms of hardware, the Nintendo Switch was the leader in terms of units while the Playstation 5 was the leader in terms of gross sales. The Xbox Series consoles ended in 2nd for both categories. The Nintendo Switch with this month's sales, has outsold the Playstation 4 in the United States, making it the 4th best selling console (and 6th platform) of all-time for the country.
