This the NPD data for April 2015, which covers the sales for April 5 through May 2, 2015 in the United States. The gaming industry generated $595.7 million[1].

Overall[]

A total of $183.9 million for Hardware. This is down 4.2% from 2014. For software, there was a total of $256.7 million, up 12.8% from 2014. There is an additional $7.7 million for PC retail software, down 40% from 2014. For Accessories, there was a total of $155.1 million, down 3% from 2014.

In terms of hardware, Xbox One triumphs over the Playstation 4 for this month with Xbox One sales increasing 63% from last April. For the period of 18 months after launch, the cumulative total for the Xbox One and PS4 is now only 50% higher than their predecessor's respective totals. Hardware sales were stable overall for current generation with the decline mostly from the 55% decline from last generation hardware as well as price cuts. Handheld hardware sales increased by 36%. In raw units, sales of all hardware are up by 12%. Nintendo announced that 3DS sales were up by 65% for the year thus far and the Wii U was up 15% for the same period.

In terms of software, Mortal Kombat X topped the charts having the best launch for a Mortal Kombat game and the second best first-month sales for a fighting game, only behind Super Smash Bros. Brawl in March 2008. Grand Theft Auto V's high position is from the PC version release. The NPD revealed that Xenoblade Chronicles 3D would have ranked 5th if the rankings were on a SKU basis while Bloodborne and Mario Party 10 would have made the list.
