This the NPD data for 2014, which covers the sales for United States for April 6 through May 3. The gaming industry generated $580.3 million^[1].

Overall[]

A total of $192.8 million for Hardware. This is up 76% from 2013. For software, there was a total of $227.9 million, down 10% from from 2013. There was also $13 million for retail PC software. For Accessories, there was a total of $159.6 million, down 21% from 2013.

In terms of hardware, the Playstation 4 outperforms the Xbox One again. The Xbox One sold 115,000 and the Xbox 360 sold 71,000, according to Microsoft. The combined sales of the Xbox One and Playstation 4 of their first 6 months have more than doubled their predecessors' respective sales.

In terms of software, Titanfall tops the chart again thanks to the Xbox 360 version dropping. Infamous: Second Son, while not on the charts, was the top-selling new-gen title for the month. 4 other SKUs are in the top 10 for SKUs that fall out when the titles are ranked together on a title basis; Yoshi's New Island for 3DS, MLB 14: The Show for PS3, Kinect Sports Rivals for Xbox One and Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare for Xbox 360. New game launches were down collectively 20% in units from 2013, driving the decrease in overall software sales.^[2]
