This the NPD data for April 2013, which covers the sales for United States for April 7 through May 4. The gaming industry generated $495.2 million[1].

Overall[]

A total of $109.5 million for Hardware. This is down 42% from 2012. For software, there was a total of $254.3 million, down 17% from from 2012. For Accessories, there was a total of $131.4 million, down 19% from 2012.

In terms of hardware, the Xbox 360 was the top selling platform at 130,000, continuing its record of top-selling console for the 28th month. The Nintendo 3DS ended in second and the Playstation 3 was in third.

In terms of software, Injustice led the month, marking the first time in 2 years for a fighting game to take the top sport. Dead Island: Riptide and Lego City Undercover: The Chase Begins are the other two new releases for the month. Defiance also makes the top 5 after missing the previous month due to releasing at the end of the month. Nintendo announced that 3DS first party games moved 2.1 million units, up 52% compared to the previous year. They also announced that Lego City Undercover: The Chase Begins shifted nearly 94,000 and Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon sold 140,000 during the month including digital. On the Wii U side, Nintendo revealed New Super Mario Bros. U was the best selling title at 770,000.[2]
